ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) is a highly transparent, lightweight and durable material used in tensile membrane structures. Its unique properties make it an ideal choice for building facades, roofing systems, skylights, and canopies in various applications, including commercial, cultural, sports and transportation venues. ETFE is highly resistant to weathering, UV radiation and corrosion, and can withstand extreme temperatures. It is also self-cleaning, reducing maintenance costs and increasing longevity. Its flexibility allows for creative designs and curved surfaces, providing a stunning visual impact. The material's sustainability and energy efficiency also make it a popular choice for green building projects.

The difference of ETFE Building Membrane and PTFE Building Membrane
ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) and PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) are two types of building membranes used in architectural applications. While they are both fluoropolymer-based materials with similar properties, there are some key differences between ETFE and PTFE building membranes:
Material Composition: ETFE is a copolymer of ethylene and tetrafluoroethylene, while PTFE is a polymer consisting solely of tetrafluoroethylene monomers. The chemical composition of the two materials affects their physical and mechanical properties.
Transparency: ETFE membranes are known for their high transparency, allowing a significant amount of natural light to pass through. This property makes ETFE membranes suitable for applications where light transmission and visual clarity are desired, such as in atriums, skylights, and facade systems. PTFE membranes, on the other hand, are generally opaque and do not allow as much light transmission.
Tensile Strength and Elasticity: PTFE membranes have higher tensile strength and lower elasticity compared to ETFE membranes. This makes PTFE membranes more suitable for long-span structures that require high load-bearing capacity, such as large-scale roofs and stadiums. ETFE membranes, although not as strong as PTFE, are still capable of withstanding significant loads and offer good elasticity, making them suitable for a variety of architectural applications.
Self-Cleaning Properties: ETFE membranes have a non-stick surface that repels dirt and is self-cleaning to a certain extent. Rainwater can wash away dirt and debris, helping to maintain the membrane's transparency and aesthetics. PTFE membranes also possess some self-cleaning properties, although not as pronounced as ETFE, and may require occasional cleaning to maintain their appearance.
Fire Resistance: Both ETFE and PTFE membranes have good fire-resistant properties. ETFE membranes are self-extinguishing and have a high ignition temperature, making them suitable for fire safety requirements. PTFE membranes are inherently flame-resistant and do not support combustion, making them suitable for applications where fire safety is a priority.
Cost: PTFE membranes are generally more expensive than ETFE membranes. The manufacturing process and material characteristics of PTFE contribute to its higher cost. ETFE membranes offer a more cost-effective solution for projects that require transparency and versatility.
